KARL STORZ Lecture ‘Journey’ by BAPES Past President Naved Alizai
Past BAPES President Naved Alizai is a Consultant Paediatric Surgeon at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, UK, with interest in HPB, GI, and General Paediatric Surgery. He also has special interest in Minimal Access Surgery (MAS) and Robotics. He is the current head of the Department and an Honorary Senior lecturer at University of Leeds and a visiting professor of Paediatric Surgery for two overseas universities.
Naved is a Proctor for Robotic Surgery for Europe and an examiner for Intercollegiate Examination Board for Paediatric Surgery in the UK.
In 2006 Naved introduced Minimal Access HPB surgery in Leeds and his department is now recognised internationally in this area. He has written a number of book chapters and has published widely on the subject. Naved is also the current convenor of one of the longest running MAS courses in the field and teaches in a number of hands on courses, both in the UK and overseas.
Apart from his clinical work, Naved has studied Law as a full time graduate and has a busy medico-legal practice. He also has a small holding and is a Herdwick sheep farmer.
